How many license points will revoke your license in Greensboro? Greensboro attorneys Garrett, Walker, Aycoth and Olson are always happy to answer!
In North Carolina, drivers are assigned both drivers license points and insurance points. Usually, drivers are concerned about insurance points, and their financial consequences. License points cannot be ignored, however, and the accumulation of too many points may suspend your license.
A suspension may occur if you accumulate 12 or more points within a three year period. The first suspension shall be for no more then 60 days. The second suspension shall not exceed 6 months and any subsequent suspension shall not exceed one year. If your client is in danger of losing his or her license because of drivers license points, they may be allowed to attend the Driver Improvement Clinic and have three points removed from their record, once every five years. This, however, does not remove the points from their insurance. Once your client’s license has been suspended, they can face a second suspension if he or she accumulates 8 or more points during the three-year time period immediately following the reinstatement of their license. Two or more traffic offenses committed on a single occasion will result in the points carrying the greater value only to be assessed.
Points are assigned as follows (also see N.C.G.S. 20-16 for a more detailed list):
