Greensboro criminal defense attorney Sean M. Olson, a partner with Garrett, Walker, Aycoth and Olson, appeared on WFMY News 2 to talk about red light cameras.
The City of Greensboro is considering re-entering the red light camera scrum after a civil law suit banned the cameras.
The cameras take photos of vehicles running red lights, but this may implicate the Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Amendments of the Constitution, Olson said. It may also create additional Due Process issues insofar as the cameras take pictures of the cars, not the driver: if someone were to borrow a car and run a red light, the owner, not the driver, might receive the ticket.
