Child Custody: Servicemember Father’s Lack of Participation

In Family by GWAO

North Carolina’s Appellate case, Ready v. Ready, dealt with a servicemember father’s lack of participation in raising his minor child. The father returned from deployment and allowed the child’s mother to continue to provide for their child’s medical, psychological, and educational issues.

The trial court found that father’s lack of attention to these issues was due to his service in the military and his “personality.” The Appellate Court agreed with the Trial Court, disagreeing with the father that he was punished for his service to this country.
